My Inspiration
Hi, I'm Ottillie, a 22-year-old oil pastel artist based in Birmingham UK. My work is inspired by the natural world, reimagined through bright colours, bold contrasts and playful forms. I am fascinated by the patterns, textures and movement found in nature, from winding coastlines and rolling landscapes to flowers, leaves and organic shapes.
My artwork celebrates the beauty, chaos and vibrancy of the natural world through bright palettes and funky shapes. Each piece is designed to bring a sense of joy, curiosity and colour into everyday spaces.
My Technique
My process is rooted in a style inspired by Zen tangle patterns. Every drawing begins with recognising shapes of colours within the composition, which I then follow and repeat inside and out allowing new patterns to emerge naturally. As the artwork grows, these shapes weave around one another, creating unexpected designs.
The forms often distort, producing unpredictable compositions filled with funky, organic shapes. This free-flowing approach means that no two pieces are ever the same. You won't find straight lines, rigid structures or perfect right angles in my work. Instead, every mark is shaped by natural curves and flowing patterns, reflecting the irregular beauty found throughout nature itself.
